This historic 185km trail circling the whole coastline is reserved for walkers, cyclists and horses — the law bans motor vehicles from it. A motorbike does get you by road to several of its entry points, many next to little-visited coves, so you can walk whichever stretch takes your fancy that day.
Roads with no mountain passes
Unlike the Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca, Menorca has no mountain passes: the Monte Toro, the island's highest point, sits at around 358 metres. Flat or gently rolling routes, comfortable even on a 49cc scooter.

Maó (Mahón)
The capital, in the east of the island and just minutes from the airport — the area with the most rental availability and the most practical starting point if you're flying in.
Ciutadella
Menorca's former capital until 1722, at the western tip, with its historic harbour — a good base for exploring the west and south-west of the island.
Es Mercadal
In the island's geographic centre, next to Monte Toro — convenient if your plan is to split your days between north and south without changing base.
Fornells
A fishing village on the island's north coast, within the municipality of Es Mercadal, with a sheltered bay over 4km long that still lives off traditional fishing. It's the home of lobster stew and, thanks to the wind in its bay, one of Menorca's reference points for windsurfing and sailing.
Sant Lluís

Licence
With a category B (car) licence held for more than 3 years, you can ride motorbikes up to 125cc in the EU. Larger engines require an A2 or A licence.
49cc scooters, no motorbike licence needed
In Spain, a category B licence lets you ride mopeds up to 49cc with no need for a motorbike licence or minimum time held. Anyone without any licence can get the AM permit from age 15. If your licence is from outside the EU, confirm with the provider that it's valid before booking.
Helmet
Always compulsory, for rider and passenger. Providers include it with the rental.
High season
Availability drops fast in July and August, especially in Maó and Ciutadella — booking ahead avoids missing out on a bike.
Unpaved tracks and restricted access
The final stretch to several unspoilt coves is dirt or loose stone, and not every insurance policy covers it the same way — ask before heading down that route. What's more, between June and September, private vehicle access to the car parks at Cala Macarella, Macarelleta and Turqueta is cut off entirely: the only way in is by shuttle bus, bike or on foot.
What the price usually includes
Basic insurance, often with roadside assistance, and VAT are usually included in the rental price with most providers on the island. Even so, it's worth checking the specific terms of each booking before confirming.
Common extras
A top box for a helmet or a bit of luggage, and a second helmet if there are two of you, are the most requested extras. If you know you'll need them, book them along with the motorbike rather than asking on arrival.
Documents and deposit
To pick up the motorbike you'll need a valid driving licence, an ID document (ID card or passport) and a credit card in the rider's name for the deposit, which is released when you return the bike with no issues.
